While there were plenty of amazing spots along the way to Milford Sound, obviously the fjord was the main attraction.
You sail out in a boat of varying size and crowdedness depending on how much you are willing to spend.
Since I was there on a business trip, I got the most luxurious trip on a large yacht with not too many other people. There was a great buffet and we were free to go anywhere on the yacht at any time.
When we sailed out, we could see the beautiful mountains all around. There were hundreds of small waterfalls falling from the mountains.
One waterfall we even sailed directly into, just for the fun of it. A lot of Chinese tourists who didn’t understand the captain’s warning got soaked!
At the furthest point of the fjord, we got the chance to see the wildlife. There were penguins and seals, and I loved it. The penguins jumped around on the rocks at the shore, while the seals were just sleeping or relaxing.
Milford Sound is a must-see if you are in New Zealand.
